NY Taxi Accident Attorney and NY Livery Car Accident Attorney

Taxi/Livery CasesMy Process

You hop in a taxi and suddenly the cab has an accident, what do you do?

You drive your car and a taxi or limousine or livery car hits you, what do you do?

In many ways, accidents involving taxis or limousines or livery cars follow the same New York laws and pattern as all car accidents. However, there are some key differences and that is where it helps to have an experienced NY taxi accident attorney. Here are some of the differences with taxi and livery car cases:

  • Taxi drivers often do not appear for depositions or trial. Therefore, you need an attorney who knows how to turn that absence into an advantage for you.

  • Taxis often have limited insurance coverage. Many post bonds in lieu of insurance. Therefore, you need an attorney who can determine the full extent of coverage and seek out other sources of coverage to compensate you.

  • Some taxi owners and companies resist cooperating in the legal process. Therefore, you need an attorney who can use legal tools to force cooperation and can find alternative methods for collecting information.

If you have suffered an injury in a taxi accident or had an accident with a limousine or livery car you may be entitled to compensation. If you think you have a case or if you have questions, you should consult a New York attorney with experience with taxi and livery car accidents. I will be glad to discuss your rights, answer your questions and help you with a potential case. You can call me at 1-800-660-1466 or send me an e-mail at Carol@SchlittLaw.com. The consultation is free and I will be glad to help you.

NY Taxi Accidents, NY Limousine Accidents and NY Livery Car Accidents

I have tried many cases involving taxis, limousines and livery cars. In some cases, my clients were passengers in a taxi or limousine involved in an accident. One client vividly described sitting in the back seat of a taxi and watching another crash into a side door. Another client had barely gotten into a taxi before it pulled into traffic, striking another car, the accident tossing her forward and injuring her shoulder.

In other taxi accidents, my clients rode in cars struck by a taxi or livery car. One woman slowed for traffic on the Major Deegan Expressway near Yankee Stadium only to have a livery cab hit her from behind. In another, a promising young athlete suffered soft tissue back injury when hurt as a passenger in car hit by a taxi.

In one taxi accident, my client rode in one cab that collided with a second taxi. The second taxi driver vanished and the insurance company had gone bankrupt, yet I was able to secure a $75,000 verdict with the insurance company for the first taxi paying in full.

In another case, a client rode in the back of a taxi that another car struck. However, the taxi insurance company did not pay her medical bills as required by No-Fault insurance laws.  Medical providers filed over $20,000 in liens against the client. I was able to secure a $95,000 settlement for the client plus force the insurance company to pay the medical liens in addition to the settlement.  As a result, the insurance company paid over and above their policy limits.
